I never really have (until recently) considered myself "domestic". But I find that as I get older I become a little less "wild" each year. This was definetly proven to me the other day. I found a grocery ad on the counter at work. I picked it up and saw that steaks were on sale. Not usually a big deal. I read the rest of the ad and found that chicken was on sale as well. Hmmm...this sorta sparked my interest.
*side note: I do not look for sales, I do not do coupons (unless they are for free Route 44 drinks from Sonic), and I for sure don't think about grocery shopping more than about 10 seconds*
I finish looking at the ad (because I was waiting and had nothing better to do while I did so) and left it on the counter. For the rest of the night I kept thinking about steak. I debated and debated about if I should buy it; if I had the money to buy it; if it was worth giving up my Sonic sodies for the rest of the week; you know, lots of stuff. It was really wierd - but just earlier today Amber and I were talking about how good a steak would have been for lunch. Finally, I leave work and go home. As I ate leftover macaroni and cheese I again thought about buying some steak.
I returned to work the next morning to find those dang ads still on the counter. So, I take a closer look. I see: Petite Sirloin Steaks BUY 1 GET 2 FREE; Whole Chickens or Family Pack of Leg Quarters $.77 A POUND. I finished my short but very busy 3 hour shift and as I was walking out the door my body becomes uncontrollable. My hand just jumps out to the side of me and my arm follows suit. Before I could ask my hand "what are you doing" in my head of course, it just grabs the ad and my feet just start moving in a hurried pace towards the door. I couldn't help but ask myself, "what in the heck are you doing". Once outside, I get into the car and then look at this stinkin ad again! It dawns on me that I have just stolen a GROCERY AD!!!!!!! I am beside myself. I examine the ad to see where it is from. I had not even paid attention to see what store would have the power to temporarily possess my body in such a manner.
I giggle to myself and say, "Only you, Jessica, would steal a grocery ad and not even know where it was from". Then I correct myself, "Only YOU would steal a grocery ad PERIOD!" (hence the name of the blog). For a very brief Nano second I got the feeling of what it would be like on GREY THURSDAY (like that?????) or BLACK FRIDAY if I were like these crazed idiots you see on tv. WATCH OUT IF THEY EVER PUT GROCERIES ON THE BLACK FRIDAY SALE - HA HA HA.
Anyway, once I had calmed myself, I drove to Albertson's. I had to see what could make me so crazy. Once in the parking lot I thought to myself - wow they aren't even busy. I found a parking spot right in the front. I went inside to the meat department and there were 2 older couples and an older lady in the department. None of them were even looking at the meat that was on sale. In fact one of the couples was fighting over bacon which I thought was totally cute. I went to the big sale signs (there was lots of different meat on sale). I started examining the steaks first (of course).
I found them. But the cheapest packages they had were $14.75 and up. I live on a very tight grocery budget mind you. I usually don't buy any meat that costs more than $8.50 a pack. So, I walk away. I find the chicken. What a deal! I got a family pack of leg quarters and do you know that the whole package only cost $4.50. Now that's what I am talking about!!!! The steaks kept whispering my name. They sure did look good; good cuts; good color; good brand. I walked past them to the roasts. The steaks call my name. I pretend to ignore them. Even though the roasts were buy 1 get 1 free - they were still like $23 each. Way out of my price range. Again, I hear my name. I have to answer.
"OK OK!" I shout in my head to those dang steaks. I start doing the math. If I buy 1 and get 2 free......After being baffelled by the math, I found three packages around the same price. The ones I picked were all around $16.75. The most expensive one was $16.81-which of course is the one they will charge me for. I don't know why they won't charge you for the least expensive one - YES I DO!! BUT IT SURE WOULD BY NICE IF THAT IS HOW THEY DID IT!
So, anyway, I walked out of Albertson's with 3 packages of beautiful talking steaks and a family size package of chicken leg quarters. The meat was right at a $60 value. Guess how much I paid!......well, I am waiting......ok, I will just tell you - $21.20!!!!!
I was totally proud of myself - incase you can't tell from this very animated and full of detail post!!! Here is a picture of one of the packs of steak and the chicken...I couldn't leave you empty handed while I go take the other steaks off of the grill - YUM!
What a great deal! Enjoy!!!
